Content

With the aim to build a good foundation of Buddhist philosophy, Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche has offered to start a new ONLINE STUDY PROGRAMME. For this purpose he will base his teachings on the classical Buddhist treatises, in particular on the works of Longchen Rabjam, Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa and Ju Mipham Rinpoche, who have been very learned masters of the 14th to 20th century.

Programme structure and participation

Every year Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche will teach five full days online on the classical texts mentioned below. Throughout the year, there will be monthly online study and review sessions with Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche to repeat and deepen the contents that have been taught and the knowledge that has been acquired through personal studies (up to 100 pages per year).
The whole programme will run for a period of four years – divided into three years of Sutrayana teachings and one year of Tantrayana teachings and practice.

Since the topics are lined up in sequential order, continuous participation is suggested.

Attendance

Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche requests all participants to attend the sessions live, as a personal relationship with his students is important to Rinpoche. Attendance at 70% of the sessions with Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche is a prerequisite for successful participation in the Longchen Shedra. Those who do not meet this requirement at the end of the study year will be asked to repeat.
Links to the recordings are provided for reviewing the material to deepen understanding.

Year #1:

Based on the first two chapters of Longchenpa’s Drubtha Dzö (Precious Treasury of Philosophical Systems), Rinpoche will teach on Lorig (Typology of mind) and Tarig (Wise reasonings), the various levels of teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and their similarities and differences.

Year #2:

Based on the third chapter of Longchenpa’s Drubtha Dzö, Rinpoche will teach the Non-Buddhist and Buddhist philosophies in detail. Within that he will focus on the Chittamatra and Madhyamaka views to explain the two levels of truth: emptiness and interdependent origination.

Year #3:

Based on the fourth chapter of Longchenpa’s Drubtha Dzö, Rinpoche will teach the Shravakayana and Partyekabuddhayana as well as the Mahayana paths, and will especially focus on Buddha Nature, the five paths and ten bhumis and Patrul Rinpoche’s “Way to generate Bodhicitta”. We will also learn to practice Mipham Rinpoche’s Buddha Shakyamuni Sadhana. Doing this, we will combine study and practice.

Year #4:

The fourth year will be dedicated to a thorough understanding of the Vajrayana, while deepening both aspects of study and practice. Rinpoche will base his teachings on Longchenpa’s “Finding comfort and ease in the nature of mind” and Jigme Lingpa’s “Treasury of precious qualities”, covering three main topics: 1. empowerments, the entrance to the Vajrayana; 2. generation and completion stages, the Vajrayana path, and 3. the Samayas, the helpful friends on the path. As a practice we will focus on the Rigdzin Düpa Sadhana.

Longchen Rabjam ‚ Infinite, Vast Expanse of Space’ (1308-1364) was one of the most brilliant teachers of the Nyingma lineage. He systematized the Nyingma teachings in his ‘Seven Treasures’ (one of them being Drubtha Dzö) and wrote extensively on Dzogchen. He transmitted the Longchen Nyingtik cycle of teachings and practice to Jigme Lingpa, and it has since become one of the most widely practised of traditions.

Jigme Lingpa (1730-1798) is regarded as one of the most important figures in the Nyingma lineage. Also known as ‘Khyentse Özer’, ‘Rays of Compassion and Wisdom’, he was a great scholar and visionary, and discovered the Longchen Nyingtik cycle of teachings and practice through a series of visions from the great fourteenth century master, Longchenpa. With the patronage of the Dergé royal family, Jigme Lingpa published the compilation of Nyingma tantras known as the Nyingma Gyübum and composed a catalogue to accompany it.
One of his most famous texts is “The Treasury of Precious Qualities” (Yönten Rinpoche Dzö), in which all the contents of the Buddhist path, from the Four Noble Truths to the highest view of Dzogchen, were explained in unique detail and system.

Mipham Rinpoche (1846-1912) — a great Nyingma master and writer of the last century, student of Jamgön Kongtrul, Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo and Patrul Rinpoche. Blessed by Manjushri, he became one of the greatest scholars of his time. His collected works fill more than thirty volumes. His chief disciple was Shechen Gyaltsab Pema Namgyal.

Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche, Sherab Zangpo was born in 1981 in the Dho Tharap valley in Dolpo region of Nepal. At the age of ten he was recognized by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as the reincarnation of the Dolpo Lama Nyinchung Rinpoche. He travelled to Namdroling Monastery in Bylakkuppe, Mysore to complete his study of philosophy, practice and rituals under the guidance of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. He excelled in all his studies. Upon completion of his studies, he began to teach Sutra and Tantra at the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute, the advanced center of philosophy study at Namdroling Monastery from 2007. In 2008, Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche went to Dolpo to be enthroned in his monasteries in Dho Tarap, Saldang and Namgung and to take more active responsibility of his people there.
