The Dolpo Tulku Charitable Foundation
The Dolpo Tulku Charitable Foundation (DTCF) was founded in 2007 and recognized as a charitable foundation by the Nepalese government in 2010. It implements the projects of Dolpo Tulku Rinpoche and Khenpo Pema Dorje. All donations collected world wide are funneled through the foundation, which distributes them to the various projects. In their functions as spiritual leaders in the Dolpo region, the local population directly discusses problems and wishes to them, where support is needed.
For a project to be accepted by the DTCF, it is required that either an individual or the community as a whole assume responsibility for the project, present a plan for the implementation and give an estimate of the cost. Especially the initiatives of young people, who have fininshed their education and want to use their knowledge to improve their native region. All activities of the DTCF reflect therefore the immediate needs of the people in Dolpo.
The DTCF works mainly in three areas:
- Conservation of environment and culture – This includes education on environmental issues like garbage disposal as well as the building of bridges and the renovation of temples as well as other Buddhist buildings like stupas-
- Health – Here the DTCF supports both health programs using allopathic as well as traditional Tibetan medicine. Additionally, a group of elderly people receives financial support for their livelihood.
- Education – The main point of concern in this area is to combine traditional education from this Himalaya region like the local language, Buddhist philosophy and Himalayan culture with modern day education.
Furthermore, the DTCF provides Immediate Relief, for example in the form of food packages during the Corona pandemic in 2020 or in various forms during the severe earthquake in Nepal in 2015. The DTCF implemented a variety of earthquake related efforts like distributing building materials, food and provided medical care. Total expenditure up to April 2016 was 150.000 Euro / 170,000 USD.
