Dolpo Tulku Charitable Foundation
The Dolpo Tulku Charitable Foundation was founded in January 2010 to implement Dolpo Tulku's and Khenpo Pema Dorje's (biography) projects in the Dolpo region. All the donations they receive throughout the world are given towards the foundation. As spiritual leaders, the people of Dolpo approach them directly with their needs and concerns, so all activities implemented by the foundation are a true reflection of the wishes of the Dolpopas.

Germany The Dolpo Hilfe primarily supports Health and education projects like the winter schools and the health station in Dho Tarap. Donations are sent to the Dolpo Tulku Charity Foundation in Kathmandu, which is the implementing organ. Current Projects: HEALTH 1) Dho Tarap Health Station The health station in the Dho Tarap Valley is run by three doctors, eductaed in Tibetan Herbal medicine. They tend to the 400 inhabitants, care for the handing down of the tradition to younger doctors and grow medicinal herbs in the green house. The annual budget is 7.600 Euros, which is being paid for by several NGOs. 4.000 Euros the Dolpo Tulku Charity Foundation contributed through the German Dolpo Hilfe. 2) Free Clinic in Kathmandu through the winter months Many of the Dolpo people escape the harsh winter in the mountains and spend several months in Kathmandu. During this time the Dolpo Tulku Charity Foundation offers free primary health care treatment and medicine. 500 Dolpopa have been successfully treated with allopathic medicine and accupuncture in the last two years. Winterschools Children in Dolpo are often deterred from attending school regularly during the summer months, as they are required to help with the region’s labor-intensive nomadic and farming lifestyle. Dolpo Tulku supports the winter schools in Saldang and Komang during which the children can catch up with missed classes and secure being transferred to the next class. As the winter schools' curriculum is up to the locals to decide and does not have to adhere to the Nepalese one, additional classes of Tibetan and subjects regarding the local cutlutre are offered. Dolpo Tulku hopes to support winter schools all through the region in future. MONASTERIES AND RELIGIOUS OBJECTS 1) Iron roof for Shey Monastery The wooden roof of the monastery has been leaking for years, damaging wall paintings, old texts and religious objects. Corrugated iron sheets were delivered from Tibet in 2009 and are currently installed to protect the monastery's interior and to prevent further damage. 2) Stupas near Chamden Monastery The eight stupas close to Dolpo Tulku's home in Chamden Monastery are 70 years old and are currently renovated for the first time by the Dolpo Tulku Charity Foundation at a cost of 17.000 Euros. Future Projects SCHOOL AND OLD AGE HOME IN KATHMANDU Many children leave the Dolpo Region in order to become ordained as monks or nuns in Nepal or India or to pursue secondary schools. Leaving their home at a young age, they often completely lose their connection to the Dolpo region. Tulku therefore has bought a piece of land close to Kathmandu, where he will begin to build a school in 2012, where the children take pre-ordination and can decide after completing their education, if they want to take full ordination as monks and nuns. Their curriculum will include modern subjects like science as well as basic Buddhist philosophy and subjects related to their culture in Dolpo. After attending vocation training or further education, the young people are expected to return to the region in their various functions as monks, nuns, nurses, teachers etc. to serve the community. Alongside the school Tulku aims to build an old age home to give the elderly a refuge from the harsh weather in Dolpo and to adequately care for them medically. |
