Dolpo Tulku | Biography

Dolpo Tulku was born in the twelfth month of the Tibetan Iron Bird Year (1981) in the Dho Tarap valley in Dolpo/Nepal. When he was ten years old, he decided to join Kanying Monastery, at that time headed by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, in Boudha/Nepal. A few months later he was recognized by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche to be the reincarnation of the Dolpo Lama Nyinchung Rinpoche. For his further education Dolpo Tulku was subsequently sent to Penor Rinpoche's Namdroling Monastery in South India. There he received basic education in reading, writing and Buddhist rituals, completing his eductaion 2006 by graduating from the monastic university. During his studies he served as a tutor for lower grades and as head of the university's Editorial Committee.

In the summer 2008 Dolpo Tulku, also called Tulku Sherap Sangpo, returned to Dolpo to get enthroned in his monasteries in Dho Tarap, Saldang and Namgung. He was accompanied by a German documentary film team.

After Tulku's return to Namdroling Monastery beginning 2009, he has started teaching at the monastic Institute for Higher Buddhist studies and will continue to do that through 2010.
